Wind Inc. Awarded Technical Achievement Award from the American Wind

March 2004 — Second Wind Inc. has been awarded the Technical Achievement Award by the American
Wind Energy Association “for two decades of accomplishment in developing outstanding turbine monitoring and control systems and cutting edge resource assessment equipment for the wind industry.” The award will be presented at the first global wind industry conference in the United States, Global Windpower 2004.
“Second Wind continues to be at the developmental forefront of this industry, thanks to our team of engineers and sales people, and collaboration with our customers. Winning this award reminds us that our products are integral in the advancement of the wind industry as a whole,” said Walter Sass, president of Second Wind Inc.
During 2003, Second Wind Inc. installed windfarm supervisory control systems on wind energy projects representing over half of the USA’s projected 1500 MW of new capacity. Second Wind’s ADMS (Advanced Distributed Monitoring System) is an independent SCADA system for utility scale wind power plants.
Second Wind had a total of nine projects under contract in 2003 monitoring a total of over 900 MW of capacity. Second Wind’s Advanced Distributed Monitoring System (ADMS) and legacy systems are now installed in over 5,000 wind turbines in the USA and Europe. The ADMS is a third-party SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system for wind energy facilities, and is compatible with any model of wind turbine.
New features added to the ADMS in 2003 include Web access to real–time wind turbine data, compatibility with site Ethernet, comprehensive substation monitoring, and enhanced commercial availability reporting. Second Wind’s clientele includes many of the world’s leading windfarm developers and operators, such as FPL Energy, Vision Quest Wind Electric, Eurus Energy and Scottish Power.
Second Wind introduced the innovative Nomad 2 data logger in 2003, advancing wind data logger technology and emphasizing the quality of the data itself. Second Wind has been manufacturing wind energy data loggers for over 20 years, starting with the award–winning AL–2000. The original Nomad data logger, introduced in 1992, has proven its reliability in the field with installations from Antarctica to the equator.
