2003 — Second Wind Inc. has released the Nomad 2 data logger for wind energy resource assessment. The Nomad 2 has 12 counter inputs for anemometers and 8 analog inputs for vanes and other sensors, in addition to a device port for use with an ultrasonic anemometer. Large, color–coded terminals make wiring sensors much easier. The logger has an integrated steel enclosure, eliminating the need to mount several components into a shelter box. Smart power management allows the logger to run on two 9V batteries for up to six months, and a solar panel can run the logger perpetually. Data is collected at user–configurable intervals and functions to an industry standard Compact Flash card. A variety of modems can be mounted inside the logger for remote communications either directly to a PC or to an email account, also allowing the user to call the logger from the office. Robust lightning protection is built into the design. Wide–temperature displays, batteries, and data cards allow the logger to operate fully from –40°C to +85°C. The Nomad 2 logger also comes with Nomad Desktop™ software for logger configuration, data collection and analysis. The logger can be mounted onto a flat surface, truss tower, or tube tower.
