August 2008 — Somerville, MA – Having seen his wind sites survive grizzly bears, lightning strikes and weather extremes across the country, Henry duPont, Managing Director of Lorax Energy Systems, LLC has become a believer in Second Wind's Nomad data logger.
That made it fitting that duPont, who uses Second Wind's loggers at 25 sites across the country, purchased the 5,000th Nomad 2 data logger and was honored at a company celebration at Second Wind's headquarters.
Lorax Energy Systems is a consulting company based in Block Island, Rhode Island, that works with project developers to determine if a site is suitable for commercial wind energy development. Among other services, the company conducts site surveys using Second Wind meteorological masts and data loggers to measure the wind resource.
duPont began working with Second Wind products in 1997, and describes the Nomad 2 as highly reliable and durable - the most advanced logger on the market. The company installed the 5,000th Nomad 2 at a site in Stinnett, Texas.
"Wind sites are often in remote areas and our towers have endured everything from grizzly bears to the worst kinds of weather," said duPont. "The Nomad 2 is rugged enough to survive every one of these challenges and keeps delivering reliable data."
Data loggers are electronic recorders that receive and process signals from sensors such as anemometers and wind vanes. Information from data loggers generate production estimates and or monitor operating wind farms.

The Nomad 2 is an instrument for acquiring data from up to 12 anemometers and up to 8 wind vanes, temperature sensors, or other meteorological devices. Nomad 2s feature advanced operation, low power consumption, field reprogrammability, and WindowsT-compatible compact flash cards for data storage.
