Second Wind Enhances Phaser with Transformer Loss Analysis Feature
9 November 1998 — Second Wind
has enhanced its successful Phaser product to include the real–time
analysis of transformer and line losses. This enhancement allows
the measurement of all electrical power parameters at a convenient
installation location while presenting information about a physical
delivery point that may be remote or at a different voltage level.
The real–time analysis feature extends the application of Phaser
to include sharing electrical system data with customers and more
accurately defines electrical parameters at the delivery point.
"Utilities and their customers want to know what is being supplied at critical
delivery points," explains Walter Sass, President of Second Wind Inc.," and
most measurement devices provide only the data that is available at the
point of installation. Unfortunately, the installation point may be electrically
different than the point of service." Phaser with Transformer Loss Analysis
allows a utility to meter a complete set of True RMS values including complex
power, power quality and many key system attributes where instrument transformers
exist. The measurements are then reflected to the delivery point where
it may be costly or impossible to install measurement devices.
Phaser allows the user to directly evaluate losses on lines and transformers,
and provide the measurement of over 56 electrical parameters at the
installation point as non–compensated values, and at the delivery
point as compensated values. Compensated data is available as SCADA
compatible serial data, or as pulse or analog outputs from the Phaser.
Since 1980, Second Wind Inc. has been an international supplier of
energy management systems and electrical measuring devices to the
electric utility industry. Second Wind sponsored research at the
nearby Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Laboratory for
Electromagnetic and Electronic Systems for this new product line.
