Options allow customers at any stage of development
to easily take advantage of remote sensing for wind data
Somerville, MA, October 5, 2010 –– Enabling
a wide range of wind energy companies to measure hub-height wind
speeds by employing highly reliable and dependable remote sensing
systems in their wind resource assessment studies, Second
Wind announced today a new, flexible leasing program for its Triton® Sonic
Wind Profiler.
The leasing program, operated through newly-established Second Wind
Financial Services, is the first manufacturer-supported third-party
leasing program for remote sensing. Second Wind will also rent Tritons
directly to customers for time periods as short as one month and
as long as twelve months.
“This program is all about empowerment and value,” says
Larry Letteney, Second Wind’s CEO. “Our goal is to streamline
the development of wind energy. This means giving wind farm developers
access to industry-leading technology to get their sites approved
and working as soon as possible. Rental and leasing gives growing
companies the tools to use industry best practices, while managing
their cash flow.”
Second Wind’s Triton is a ground-based remote sensing system.
Triton uses sodar (sonic detection and ranging) technology to measure
wind up to and above the 140-meter blade tip height of current utility-scale
wind turbines. Designed for wind energy applications including wind
resource assessment, micro-siting of wind turbines, and ongoing monitoring
of wind conditions on working wind farms, Triton has been in commercial
use since April 2008 and is the wind power industry’s market-leading
remote sensing system.
“The Triton leasing program has given us a competitive advantage,” said
Greg Zupkus of BNE Energy, a Connecticut-based wind developer serving
the business and residential markets. “We love the mobility
of the Triton, and through leasing, we have a larger remote sensing
fleet than many big developers.”
The Triton leasing program is for developers who want to finance
purchase of a Triton, or who want to use it for a year or more. There
is little or no up-front cash investment. Customers may secure up
to 100 percent financing; the program also provides tax and accounting
benefits. The Triton rental program is an alternative to leasing
for periods of less than a year. Customers who choose to keep
the Triton at the end of the rental period may apply a percentage
of their rental payments to the purchase price.
