Applications

The Advanced Distributed Monitoring System can be used for many different applications on a windfarm, including monitoring the substation, interfacing to a forecasting system, controlling tubines in column winds, and monitoring aircraft obstruction lightning.

Monitor Met Towers and Substations
The ADMS is the only system that integrates the monitoring of meteorological towers and substations. You can calculate the energy losses due to wind/terrain effects as well as from your electrical equipment and be sure your facility is operating correctly. Forecasting Interface
This new feature allows forecast service providers to obtain time series windfarm data in real-time directly from the ADMS Supervisor computers. Using this interface, forecasting services will be able to predict wind power production potenial for a given time period with much greater precision. With actual time series data, a more accurate prediction of the amount of power to be delivered from the windfarm can be made, increasing revenues and reducing penalties. Autopilot Control of Turbines
The ADMS provides an autopilot for programmed supervisory shutdown that is initiated by pre-specified site conditions. The autopilot feature can be used to shut down selected turbines in high or low winds, or winds from particular directions. This feature can be used to control site noise and/or reduce wear and tear on the turbines. Read more about the ADMS Autopilot Feature (pdf) here.

Aircraft Obstruction Lights Monitoring
Aircraft obstruction lights are required on most modern wind turbines in the United States and internationally. In the US, aviation authorities require interruptions in lighting to be reported and repaired as soon as possible. The ADMS monitors the status of aircraft obstruction lights and notifies the wind plant operator when a bult has either burnt out or has lost communication with the CTM.
